The Red Spring
- A new main questline. Corvain, the Beak, waits in the square by the fountain. His thirteen chapters take you across the whole of Act One and down into the Broken Fortress, from level 1 to around 25.
- Fully voiced. Corvain speaks every line.
- The zones follow the story. Each zone's level now matches the chapter that first sends you there, so the Bridge, the Blood Fields and the Ruined Fortress no longer ambush a hero who arrives on time.
- The old town quests are still there as side stories. The Mail of the Fallen now opens at level 13 and the Reaper's Hook at level 11, where their zones are.
Six new skills
- A fifth chain on the Blood Tree: The Red Spring. Its skills are earned by finishing Corvain's chapters and learned with a Blood Mark.
- Foul Blood (passive): poison and bleed feed your rage instead of only hurting, and wear off sooner.
- Deepvein (passive): underground - in the mines and every depth of the Broken Fortress - you hit harder and take less.
- Ashen Ward: plant the axe and raise a ring of ash and cinder that cuts and bleeds everything inside it.
- Red Communion: burst a fresh corpse into a spray of blood that bleeds everything nearby and heals you for each one caught.
- Marrow Break: an overhead blow that splits the ground into a fissure of bone, brutal against the dead.
- Broken Crown (passive): below a third of your health, every kill heals you and stretches Berserk.
- Ashen Ward, Red Communion and Marrow Break each swear one of two Oaths at rank III.
Loot
- Uniques now drop. Boss uniques were in the game but could never be found. Defeat a boss for the first time and its unique weapon is yours, guaranteed; every later kill has a small chance to drop another. In the Broken Fortress, Skugarth now drops Skugarth's Twin Axes. If you beat Skugarth before this patch, his axes are a chance on every kill.
- Armed Champions walk the land. Rare named elites now appear: Varkul the Hewer in the overworld, and Gorrak, Sister Ashveil, Ser Maldrec and Hookmother Grisla in the Broken Fortress. Each carries a unique weapon or shield and always drops it.
- Better loot between levels 25 and 29. Helms, gloves, boots and belts no longer drop as early-game gear when nothing of your level exists for that slot.
- The trophy pouch now shows each trophy's icon.
Animation and fixes
- The hero's run now matches its stride: no more sliding feet.
- The Grave Brute's slam deals its damage when the maul lands.
- Sword-and-shield swings hit on the visible blow.
- Trousers no longer split wide open at the thigh when the hero runs or walks.
- The Crypt Stalker has its own body and movement instead of a wolf's.
- Wolves and plague rats no longer slide as they run, and plague rats no longer float above the ground.
Known Issues
- Heroes are still bald in character creation; hair is on its way.
- The hero's walk is still the old one; a heavier walk is on its way.
- The Wolves at the Door conversation still mentions pelts in the spoken lines.
